One of the more interesting things said about preachers is that they have “beautiful feet” (Rom. 10:15). Aw shucks, thanks. I didn’t realize you noticed. Of course, this is figurative language of someone who brings good news, who announces peace, who brings good news of happiness and announces salvation and says, “Your God reigns!”  (Isa. 52:7). This is especially humbling since this is God’s opinion of preachers.
It's been a blessing to be part of a church who loves their preachers. I found out a long time ago that there are some churches who don’t like preachers. I’m not sure what happened there. Perhaps they had a preacher with smelly feet or ugly feet. Some focus in on the bad news, the past and the negative. The term “gospel preacher” doesn’t fit well perhaps for some. Still others, who loved the Lord, remained humble and did their best never got a chance. It never made sense that they would ask a preacher to work with them and then mistreat him for his efforts.
Perhaps some preachers need a pedicure. It’s easy to forget that we all need to hear a message of joy, hope and eternal life no matter how lost we might be. Paul had some serious things to say to those at Corinth, but he began his letter speaking about the grace and peace of God (and he ended it the same way). Pollyanna had a point.
It’s encouraging to be around believers who consider those who rule well in the churches worthy of double honor, especially those who preach and teach (especially since that’s what we’re taught to do in Scripture, 1 Tim. 17). Thank you so much for your wonderful hearts. It’s such an encouragement to preach with joy and not with grief (Heb. 13:17). Thanks to all who remind preachers that they have beautiful feet.
