On Tuesday, Rykers Basketball team won the Metro Christian League Championship! Obviously, it was a great season! The team had a 14-3 record going into the playoffs and every member of the team got at least one basket throughout the season! It was a fun season, and the team was fun to watch. What impressed me the most about the team this year was the willingness of the team to spread the ball around to those who were not the most skilled players on the team multiple times in the same game just to make sure they had plenty of chances to make a basket. When those players did make a basket, the entire team celebrated for that player! It was a true show of sportsmanship and team camaraderie.

Last week David lead one of my favorite songs, “The Family of God”. This is a song that we sang EVERY NIGHT at the camp I grew up going to right before we dismissed everyone to head back to the cabins. The part of the song that has always been impactful to me is the line that says, “when one has a heartache, we all share the tears, and rejoice in each victory in this family so dear.”

To me, this is what Christianity is all about, we are a family. When I struggle, my brothers and sisters surround me and help me. When tragedy hits, we mourn together. When victory happens, we all rejoice together. Again, this is what a family does, this is what the church does.

The second verse of the song also ends with a very powerful line, “I’m not worthy to be here, but praise God I belong!” I’m not worthy of the love of the church, let alone to love of God. But I praise Him every day that I am loved!
