Some years ago, there was a comedy skit on obesity. The joke was that the government had raised the BMI numbers for obesity resulting in fewer people being considered obese. According to the skit, since there were fewer people considered obese thousands and thousands of lives would be saved. Of course, they embellished all the details showing that diseases that affected the obese would now affect fewer people because the new numbers meant fewer people were obese. There were interviews with very heavy people excited that they were no longer obese and no longer had to worry about diabetes and other diseases and problems associated with obesity. It was a very clever skit and the absurdity of it all made it that much more hilarious. Of course, there’s nothing funny about obesity.
Many have been celebrating this month that Biblical prohibitions of God are now void. As if our culture has grown beyond God’s directives. No one, whether they are so called “Church Leaders,” clergy, or those who have just decided that we can now interpret the Bible differently than what is written can change the realities of God’s Word. We must love people enough to tell them the truth.
It is tragic that the sinful behaviors described in 1 Cor. 6:9-10 are so overwhelming and all-consuming that people begin to be identified by these behaviors. “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption” (Gal. 6:7-8). This is demonstrated by the “Program for LGBTQ Health” developed by Vanderbilt University Medical Center (https://www.vumc.org/lgbtq/key-health-concerns-msm-men-who-have-sex-men). It describes in detail the many health concerns associated with homosexual behaviors, including risk for certain types of chronic diseases, cancers, and mental health problems. These same health concerns have been described by the LGBTQ for decades. There’s nothing funny about sexual struggles. They are serious and we should love others enough to not water down God’s Word.
The rainbow should not be a sign that anything goes, but rather a reminder that we should have faith like Noah to trust and obey. Our only hope is redemption found in Christ alone.
Eternal separation from God is no joke.
