Everyone has an opinion. I was told that opinions are like noses, everyone has one and some of them smell. Everyone has a right to their own opinion, no matter how strange or wrong I might think they are. Hardly anyone agrees with others on everything.
Everyone has a right to their own opinion, but not to their own truth. There are things that are right and will always be right. There are things that are wrong and will always be wrong. If God said it, it’s no longer opinion, but truth. No one has a right to their own truth.
Sometimes it’s hard to separate opinions from truth. In fact, we begin to think of our opinions more like convictions than opinions. When it comes to opinions I might not always be right, but I’m never in doubt. A danger for preachers is insisting that their opinions are the only ones that are right.
The thing with opinions is that they are neither right nor wrong. One of the longest sections in Scripture is about opinions. Romans 14:1 to 15:13 is about things that God is not concerned about. God doesn’t care about what you eat or what days you celebrate. What God does care about is that we accept and welcome those with differing opinions.  We don’t have to accept their opinions, but we must accept them. Because God accepts them (14:3). Because Jesus is Lord (14:5-9). Christians do what they do and hold the opinions they do to please the Lord. In matters of opinion leave it to God. He is the only judge (14:10-12).
Two Christians can be right, even with two different opinions. But we can’t be right with two different truths.
