  • I couldn’t have done it without my wife!
  • I have been there for most births, marriages and funerals or as I say whenever anyone is hatched, matched or dispatched. It’s been marvelous to be a part of everyone’s lives.
  • There is a cycle to life, including the life of a church. We have had periods of growth and decline. Longevity gives you perspective.
  • As a preacher it’s amazing to be part of a church where I don’t know more about the Bible than anyone else here.
  • This is not my church. First and foremost, it belongs to God. There are members who have more history and more investment in the success of the Lord’s church here than I have had.
  • Life can be confusing and there are many things that can wreck families, but God’s Way is always best. If the church knows that you love them, you can plainly tell them what God’s Word says. There are things that are right and will always be right and there are things that are always wrong.
  • When it comes to the thorny issues of life there are no EASY answers, but God’s grace is more than sufficient to get us through.
  • When asked how I’ve been here so long, my answer is that this is a church that loves preaching and thus loves preachers, and in my case you have given me the benefit of the doubt. After 38 years I don’t think there is a topic that I haven’t preached about.
  • You have been more generous to me than I deserve. You have celebrated my strengths and overlooked my weaknesses.
  • When we play the “do you remember?” game, it’s clear that I have forgotten much more than I remember.
  • Hebrews was right (13:17), being an elder can be a joyful experience. I have been blessed to have worked alongside many marvelous elders.
