God says “Wake up!” It’s amazing that Paul wrote this to Christians (Rom. 13:11-14). It’s obvious that the world needs to wake up to their spiritual reality, but this is to Christians. Is the church ever asleep? Is there ever a problem with apathy? When do Christians or the church need to wake up?
Parasomnia is when someone is asleep but exhibits behaviors that we associate with someone awake. Some walk in their sleep, others talk, and some have been known to go running, drive or even move furniture. Is it possible to go through the motions, but be spiritually asleep?
It’s time to wake up. Paul says “knowing the time” wake up. Whichever comes first, death or the second coming, doesn’t matter. Every day we are one day closer. Every minute we are one minute closer to our death or to Jesus’ return whichever comes first. Wake up because time is running out.
It’s time to wake up and focus. “Put on the armor of light” (Rom. 13:12, cf. Eph. 6:11). You need armor when you’re at war. We’re in a life-or-death struggle. Christians are under attack. “Be sober, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour” (1 Pt. 5:8). Are we awake to the attacks being made on the Bible? It’s being attacked because its message isn’t popular. We need to be aware of the time - Too many Christians have laid down their only offensive weapon, the Sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God (Eph. 6:17). They’ve been left helpless. Some Christians have surrendered their most basic beliefs. God created us male and female. God’s design is for one man and one woman to be married and for sexual relations to be reserved for that relationship only. It’s an attack on the family. We have been asked to affirm things that are condemned by God. No one likes war. No one wants to lose their children. Surrender doesn’t save us, it enslaves us. Wake up!
Wake up, you’re in the fight of your life. Be like Jesus. He prayed, your will not mine be done.
