Ron Writes

As always, we brought our sick and special concerns before God on Wednesday night. As we focused on God there were many we mentioned as having a special need of God’s intervention. From seasonal sicknesses and travel plans to the much more serious life and death issues. There are those suffering from cancer, migraines, heart issues, anxiety, addiction, surgery, physical pain and the many struggles associated with aging. The list and the needs are ever-changing. I’m grateful for those who love one another enough to join in prayer every week for those who really need the powerful hand of God in their lives.

However, what was especially pleasing and really stirred my heart this past week were the many declarations of praise that were expressed. God is working and answering prayers in the lives of so many in very obvious ways. Praying is only half of the equation. The other half is recognizing the presence of God in our lives as He faithfully answers those prayers. Praise is sharing with others how God is working in your life! There has been healing; financial blessings seen in new jobs and better working conditions as well as new homes; and connections with other Christians that have brought us closer to God; and new opportunities; and the blessings of seeing other Christians living for God that have encouraged you. The sharing and outpouring was wonderful!

And we sang! Praying is hard work. While others slept, Jesus poured out His heart to God so powerfully that drops of blood fell like sweat. It takes concentration. Focus. We are approaching the Creator of the universe in conversation. We talk, and plead, but sometimes you just have to sing. After the last supper, before going up to the Mount of Olives the disciples joined Jesus in song.  Folks often object that they’re not good singers, but it’s not the voice, but the heart that matters. You might not be a strong soprano or bass, or anything in between, but your voice is needed to fill in the gaps. Sing out. Don’t forget in the midst of the beautiful harmonies, and the great lessons expressed that we have an audience of one: God!

Don’t come on Wednesday nights out of obligation. Come because this is where Christianity is lived. Come because you want to pause in the middle of the week to join other Christians to express your love for God and one another. Don’t come because it’s easy, come because it’s meaningful! Come because you believe that God is and He is a rewarder of those who seek Him. This is Christianity in action!
