In 2022 the Oregon City church successfully raised funds to dig a well in Bazel Bridge, Zimbabwe. This well was dug on the church property where one of the preachers we support, Simbarashe Gondo, preaches. This has made a tremendous impact on their daily lives.
This year we’d like to raise $10,000 to provide a well for Harare, Zimbabwe. This is where the other preacher we support, Nhamo Mumba, preaches.
Cholera Outbreak: Zimbabwe is currently battling cholera that has so far claimed more than 100 lives while more than 300 others are suspected to have succumbed to other water born disease. In Zimbabwe, 21,000 cases since February 2023 make this epidemic the second-worst on record. Cholera is a bacterial disease that is usually spread in water. It causes severe diarrhea and dehydration and is fatal if not treated immediately. The main problem is a lack of a clean water supply and poor sewage systems.
Water is something we Americans take for granted. It comes right out of the tap in our homes. CARE reported that 67% of people living in rural Zimbabwe don't have access to safe drinking water. Worldwide, 1 out of 10 don’t have access to clean water. But in Zimbabwe it’s nearly 7 out of 10 who don’t have access to drinking water. Thousands die every year from a lack of access to adequate water, sanitation and hygiene.
We have been supporting brother Mumba for many years. These have been difficult times for him. Last year his wife, Esther, died (April 30, 2023). She was preceded in death by their 11-year-old son, Promise (March 6, 2012). He will be overseeing the progress of this well which will be dug on property the church owns. By the way, the tribal chief in his area attends church where he preaches.
We are asking you to give beyond your weekly contribution to a special fund for this project. Watch for weekly updates as to the progress of this fund.
